John W. Reckless

Dunmore, PA April 4, 1949 ~ January 18, 2018 Date of Service: January 22, 2018

John W. “Jack” Reckless, 68, Dunmore, died Thursday morning in the Regional Hospital of Scranton. He and his wife, the former Joyce Bryer, had celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary on May 28th 2017.

Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late William and Lucille Costa Reckless. Jack was a graduate of both Scranton Preparatory School and the University of Scranton. Prior to his retirement he worked as an accountant at Fitchburg Coated Products in Moosic and recently from his own lawn care and snow removal business. Jack was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish in Dunmore.

Jack will always be remembered as a “jack of all trades…master of none.” He was a “rock” for his wife, a father whom his children could depend on, whose love was unconditional. The grandkids were the light of his life and brought him special joy. Jack had a work ethic that was admirable and a part of his legacy which will never be forgotten.

His family would like to thank the doctors and both the emergency and medical staff at Regional Hospital of Scranton for their compassion and dedicated care on behalf of Jack. It meant everything for his wife and children to be able to surround him during his passing.

Also surviving is a daughter, Jessica Napoli and her husband Vince, Dunmore, two sons, William Reckless and his wife Colleen, Scott Twp., and Jonathan Reckless and his wife Kaitlin, Dunmore, five grandchildren, Clare and Nolan Reckless, Scott Twp., Adelina and Elliana Napoli, Dunmore and Jackson Reckless, Dunmore.

The funeral will be Monday from the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home, Inc. 318 East Drinker Street in Dunmore with Mass of Christian Burial at 11AM in St. Mary of Mount Carmel Church, Chestnut Street in Dunmore. Interment will follow in the Italian-American Cemetery in the Minooka Section of Scranton.

Friends may call Sunday from 2pm-5pm.

In lieu of flowers the family encourages memorial contributions to the Gino Merli Veterans Center 401 Penn Avenue Scranton 18503 or to the Alzheimer’s Association 57 North Franklin Street Wilkes-Barre 18701 or online at
