Dorothy Zakar, 99, formerly of Scranton, died Wednesday afternoon in the Brookmont Health Care Center in Effort, PA.  Her husband, the late David Zakar, died in 2004.

Born in Ellenville, NY, daughter of the late Morris and Ethel Newman Magzamer, she attended Brooklyn College.  Dorothy was the light in every room who always carried love with her, bringing happiness and joy to all whom she encountered. 

Surviving is a daughter, Ellen Goosay of Saylorsburg; a son, Stephen Zakar and wife Linda of Ashland, MA; grandchildren, Michael Goosay, Natalie Turpan, Rachel Stutz, Sara Zakar, and Jessica Meservey; as well as 8 great-grandchildren. 

She was also preceded in death by her five siblings, and son-in-law, Sam Goosay.

The funeral will be Sunday at 10 a.m. in the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home, Inc., 318 E. Drinker St., Dunmore, with services by Rabbi Moshe Saks.  Interment, Temple Israel Cemetery, Dunmore.

Shiva will be observed at the home of her daughter on Sunday from 4-8 p.m. and Monday from 2-5 p.m.

I’m so sorry to hear about your Mom’s passing. I work at Elan Gardens and helped take care of her. She was such a joy to care for. Always the smile, the gratitude and an abundant of kindness. I just wanted you to know how special she was to many. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family at this difficult time.
