Donato C. Rinaldi
Dunmore, PA April 17, 1925 ~ November 8, 2017 Date of Service: November 11, 2017Donato C. Rinaldi, Sr, best known as Danny, passed away on Wednesday November 8, 2017. His wife, Nancy Ciangola Rinaldi, preceded him in death on January 29, 2012. He was 92.
Born on April 17, 1925 in Dunmore, he was the son of the late Dominic and Carmella Mecca Rinaldi. He was educated in Dunmore schools and graduated with honors in January 1943. After turning 18, he was drafted into the United States Army and served during World War II with the 356th Anti Aircraft Division. He spent three years serving in the Pacific Theater including Hawaii and Okinawa, and rose to the rank of Corporal. After returning from his military service, he began working for the Erie Railroad until 1954. When Erie left Dunmore, Danny began working with his father and uncles at the Pennsylvania Gas and Water Company where he was employed for 35 years until his retirement in 1989.
Danny met and fell in love with his wife, Nancy, soon after the war and they were married at Saint Lucy's Church, Scranton on February 3, 1951. They resided in Dunmore for the rest of their lives and raised five children. Danny loved spending time outdoors including gardening, taking care of his lawn and hosting family cookouts. Most of all, he loved watching his grandchildren and seeing them grow up. He loved the new home he built on Cooney Street in 1962 and made many lifelong friends there. Danny was always well loved by his family, his neighbors and his co-workers.
Danny is survived by his five children: Nancy Malone and husband, James, Dunmore; Robert Rinaldi and wife, Lois, Archbald; Dominic Rinaldi and wife, Michele, South Abington Township ; Joseph Rinaldi, Alexandria, VA; and Donato (Danny) Rinaldi and wife, Sue, Mount Pleasant, SC.
Danny also has ten grandchildren he loved and adored: James and Justin Malone, Dunmore; Mario Rinaldi, Dunmore, Anthony Rinaldi and his wife Sarah, Jessup, Robert Rinaldi, Pittsburgh, Alicia and Vincenzo Rinaldi, Archbald; Demetri and Monica Rinaldi, South Abington Township; and Victoria Rinaldi, Mount Pleasant, SC. He also has three great grandchildren: Kaylin, Gabriel and Natalie Rinaldi. He is also survived by a sister, Catherine Carson, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Rinaldi.
The family would like to thank the entire staff of The Jewish Home of Eastern Pennsylvania and especially the second floor staff for their outstanding care where Danny was a resident since November 2011, as well as Hospice of the Sacred Heart.
The funeral will be Saturday from the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home, 318 E. Drinker Street, Dunmore with Mass of Christian Burial at 11a.m. in the Saint Anthony of Padua Church, Smith St., Dunmore. Interment to follow at Cathedral Cemetery in Scranton.
Friends may call Friday evening from 5PM to 8PM at the funeral home.
