David J. Jones, Sr., 64, Dunmore, died Tuesday afternoon at the Regional Hospital of Scranton. He is survived by his wife, Cassandra Knabel Jones.

Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late David and Romayne Jones. A 1971 graduate of Scranton Central High School, he worked as a member of the Teamsters Local 229 for 25 years and then as an Operator Instructor for the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation for 20 years. Throughout his career he was always available to train and educate new or young truck drivers on the “rules of the road”. 

He was a loving husband, father, Pop, uncle, brother, and friend that enjoyed family vacations to the beach and family gatherings at the holidays, where he would get to spend time with his children, nieces, and nephews, all of whom he was very proud of. He will be dearly missed by his loving family and friends.

Also surviving are a daughter Katelyn Jones, South Korea, two sons, David Jones and his wife Kristen, Dunmore, and Matthew Jones, Dunmore, three grandchildren, Sydney, Rhys, and Stella all of Dunmore, a sister, Patricia Jones, Scranton, Kevin Jones and his wife Christine, Scranton, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by an infant son, Stephen Joseph Jones.

The funeral will be Monday from the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home, 318 East Drinker Street in Dunmore with Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 AM in St. Mary of Mount Carmel Church, Chestnut Street in Dunmore. Interment, St. Michael’s Cemetery, Dunmore.

Friends may call Sunday from 2 PM - 5 PM.
