Beverly A. Lydon, 81, of Dunmore, died Friday evening at home. She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, the late Paul R. “Sharkey” Lydon in 2016.
Born in Dunmore, daughter of the late William J. and Mildred M. Ferguson Murphy, she was a graduate of Dunmore High School and went on to attend Lackawanna Business College. She was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish in Dunmore. For a number of years, she had been employed by ICS in Scranton. Beverly volunteered for nearly forty years at the former Mercy Hospital, both with their auxiliary and its gift shop, until 2008. She had also been a member of the Sherwood Youth Association, where she participated in planning functions and fundraisers. Her children were a great source of pride to her and her husband, having sent all of them to Scranton Prep, and later to the University of Scranton. An amazing and compassionate woman, Beverly was a lover of all animals, especially cats, and never hesitated to take one under her care. She will be profoundly missed by her family.
Surviving is a daughter, Shauna Munshower and her husband, Dr. John, of Wayne, PA; sons, Timothy Lydon and his wife, Theresa, of Shavertown; and Colin Kelly Lydon, Esq. and his wife, Tammy, of Harrisburg; her brother, William Murphy, Esq. and wife Suzanne of Philadelphia; 10 grandchildren, Conor Lydon and fiancée Dr. Jennifer Argudo, Jared and Madison Lydon; Joshua, Kathleen, and Christian Lydon; Amanda, John, Joseph, and Paul Munshower; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was also preceded in death by a son, Paul W. Lydon, in 2008.
The funeral will be Wednesday from the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home, Inc., 318 E. Drinker St., Dunmore, with Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in the St. Mary of Mount Carmel Church, Chestnut St., Dunmore. Interment to follow in Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Dunmore.
Friends may call on Tuesday evening from 5-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
