Barbara D. "Toni" Loughney, 82, formerly of the Green Ridge section of Scranton, died Sunday night in the Jewish Home of Eastern Pa. after suffering from the ill effects of dementia for 17 years. She was the widow of Joseph Patrick Loughney Sr., who died in 2011 and to whom she was married for 52 years.
Born in Scranton, daughter of the late Donald and Margaret "Peg" McDermott O'Malley, she was a graduate of Scranton Central High School and was a member of St. Paul's Parish. Prior to retirement, she had been employed as a secretary at the Marywood University library for 30 years and had also worked as a sales agent with Jack Ruddy Century 21 Real Estate.
Toni was a very devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend whose true enjoyment was her family.
Toni's family is grateful to her caregivers over the past seven years, especially Ann Acculto, Jodie Brooking, Maryann Cadden, as well as the team at Oakwood Terrace in Moosic, Compassionate Care Hospice and the Jewish Home of Eastern Pa. in Scranton.
Surviving are her daughter, Ellen Loughney and husband, Raj Singh, of Galloway Twp., N.J.; sons, Joseph P. Loughney Jr. and wife, Theresa, of Milford, Pa.; Francis R. Loughney of New Tripoli, Pa.; and Michael P. Loughney of Las Vegas; grandchildren, Joseph P. Loughney III, Ryan Loughney and Scott Gillette; her sisters, April Jackson and husband, Joseph, of Clarks Summit; and Dianne O'Malley Regan of Redwood City, Calif.; her brother, Philip O'Malley of Dickson City; her beloved nieces and nephews, Sabrina and Brion Applegate, David Regan, Christina and Eddie Carmichael, David and Janine Jackson, Mariel Loughney, Eileen Loughney, Michael and Debbie Loughney, Jeanie and Tom Ehnot, John and Fran Loughney and Pat (Nibsy) and Donna Loughney; and numerous cousins.
She was also preceded in death by a brother-in-law, George Regan.
The funeral will be Monday from the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home Inc., 318 E. Drinker St., Dunmore, with Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Clare's Church, North Washington Avenue, Scranton. Interment to follow in Dunmore Cemetery.
