Armand V. ZangardiScranton, PA February 9, 1950 ~ November 24, 2015 Date of Service: November 28, 2015
Armand V. Zangardi, 65, of Dunmore and recently Scranton, died Tuesday at home surrounded by his family after a courageous 14 month battle with stage 4 pancreatic and liver cancer. He and his wife the former Pat Caterino, had celebrated their 41st wedding anniversary on June 1st and had been together for over 47 years.
Born February 9, 1950 in Scranton, he was the son of the late Armand “Mondo” and Jean Deutsch Zangardi. He was a devout member of St. Paul’s Parish his entire life. He was a graduate of St. Paul’s High School, earned his bachelor degree from the University of Scranton, and a master’s degree in social work from Marywood College. Armand worked for Lackawanna County Bureau of Children Services, and then was Director of the Lackawanna County Detox Unit located at the Scranton State Hospital and went on to become the Director of the Lackawanna County Drug and Alcohol Commission. Following that he worked for many years for Prudential Insurance and then decided to go into the healthcare industry owning the Regina Manor and then Green Ridge Assisted Living for 30 years prior to retirement.
Armand has always given so much love, devotion, and sacrifice for his wife and son’s AJ and Michael. He has always cherished his friendships over the years. He never forgot someone’s name or the place and year they met. His wife was the love of his life. They laughed, joked, and cried together, from day one of their relationship. They were inseparable and stood by one another and had great balance. He has always been so proud of his son AJ and his three beautiful grandchildren who brought so much love, joy, and laughter to his life. What a beautiful gift of life and love his son AJ gave Armand and Pat. When his youngest son Michael passed away in Sept. 2012 his life changed forever. He worked very hard at picking up the pieces and moving on as best he could. He is now with Michael no longer suffering.
His family would like to thank many people for the care and compassion shown to Armand.
