Anthony J. Capoccia, 92, of Dunmore, died Wednesday, April 11, at the Dunmore Health Care Center. His wife, the former Marie Lettieri, died in 2013.

Born in Dunmore, son of the late Innocenzo “Vincent” and Delphine “Clara” Capoccia, he attended Dunmore High School. He served in the United States Navy during World War II. Before retirement, he was a baker by trade.

He proudly served in the U.S. Navy on the USS Pasadena. His service took him around the world, and he was present in Tokyo Bay 2 in Sept., 1945, at the signing of the surrender terms with the Allies by the Japanese.

Upon retirement, he was content to sit on his front porch watching the neighborhood and talking to all of his neighbors.

He was a member of SS. Anthony and Rocco Parish, Dunmore.

The family would like to thank both Dr. John Diakiw and Dr. Nicholas Dodge, as well as the entire staff of the Dunmore Health Care Center and PHHC Scranton Hospice for the collective compassion and care given to Tony throughout his illness. It will never be forgotten.

Surviving are daughter, Ann Zieno, Sidney, NY, son Vincent and wife, Donna, Dunmore; grandchildren, Alycia Zieno, Ross and Paul Capoccia; sisters, Lillian Dzuris and Pauline McKenna, Dunmore and Sylvia Mittelman (Dan) Cherry Hill, NJ. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday at 11AM in St. Anthony of Padua Church, 208 Smith Street in Dunmore. As per Tony’s request, there are no calling hours. Interment will be private in the Dunmore Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to SS. Anthony and Rocco Parish, 303 Smith Street, Dunmore, or the donors’ favorite charity.
