Dunmore, PA August 21, 1937 ~ November 27, 2015 Date of Service: December 1, 2015Ann Marie Hopkins, 78, Dunmore died Friday at home. She and her husband, William J. Hopkins, celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary on July 22.
Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Hugh and Kathryn Wicker Gallagher. She was a graduate of Marywood College, class of 1959, and for many years had taught in both the Scranton and Dunmore School Districts.
She was a devoted member of St. Paul’s Church, Scranton were she was a Eucharistic Minister and taught CCD. She was also an active member and an officer in the Legion of Mary, and was active in prison ministry and had provided those she served with handmade rosaries.
She was an avid bridge player with the Monroe Avenue Bridge Club, enjoyed doing cross-stitch and traveling, especially to Europe the past several years.
Ann Marie was a woman of faith, who loved her family and friends and gave to others without hesitation. She will be remembered for her generous and kind spirit, her plastic canvas crafts and the joy she took in being a wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt.
Also surviving are her children, Mary Ann Fox and husband, Greg, Florida; Erin Conway and husband, Robert, Jessup; William Hopkins and wife, Ana, West Virginia; Timothy Hopkins, vice principal of Dunmore Junior-Senior High School and wife, Elizabeth, Dunmore; Maureen Weigl and husband, Joseph, Harrisburg; Thomas Hopkins and wife Kelli, Florida; and Eileen Serio and husband, Mike, New York; grandchildren, Ryan, Kevin and Colin Fox, Cynthia and Michael Conway, Victor, Ana Victoria, Isabella and Constanza Hopkins, Timothy and Katherine Hopkins, Zachary and Audrey Weigl, Madison Coppelli and Hannah and Emily Serio; a sister, Catherine Renga, New Jersey; and nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by a brother, Hugh Gallagher.
The funeral will be Tuesday from the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home Inc., 318 E. Drinker St., Dunmore, with Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Paul’s Church, 1510 Penn Ave., Scranton. Interment to follow in Dunmore Cemetery. Friends may call Monday at the funeral home from 4 to 8 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Dunmore Junior-Senior High School Student Activity Fund C/O, 300 W. Warren St., Dunmore, PA 18512.
