Anita Siegel Plotkin, 95, of Scranton, died Wednesday morning in Philadelphia in her sleep. Her husband, the late Louis Plotkin, died May 23, 2010. The couple had been married for 60 years.
Born in Wilkes-Barre, she was the daughter of the late Benjamin and Bertha Williams Siegel and attended Cornell University before graduating from Drexel University.
After college she joined the Navy WAVES and served during WWII as a supply officer. After her service, she worked as a merchandise specialist in an upscale retail business in Wilkes-Barre and then met and married her husband, Louis. Together they started and built a successful wholesale and plumbing and heating supply business known as Scranton Sales Company.
Anita will be remembered as a vivacious extrovert, whose endless energy was funneled into her family, her friends and her community. She was very active in fundraising and volunteering for many charitable organizations such as: Hadassah, Temple Israel, the Jewish Community Center, the American Red Cross and Reading for the Blind.
Surviving are a daughter, Linda Brickel, Philadelphia; and a son, Burt Plotkin and wife, Cindy, Sante Fe, New Mexico; grandchildren, Erica, Brette, Lindsey and Ellis; and great-grandchildren, Matthew and Chloe.
A graveside service will be held Friday at 1:30 p.m. in Temple Israel Cemetery, Dunmore by Rabbi Moshe Saks.
Local Shiva will be held at Plaza 550 Clay Ave., Apt 5C, Scranton, PA 18510 on Saturday, 5-8 p.m., Sunday, 2-8 p.m. and Monday, 4-8 p.m.
