Angelo L. Martarano, 87, of Dunmore, died peacefully Wednesday morning in the Scranton Healthcare Center. His wife, the former Catherine Spiotto, preceded him in death on February 1, 2016.
Born in Dunmore, son of the late Luigi and Benedetta Pizzimenti Martarano, he attended Dunmore public schools and was a member of SS. Anthony and Rocco Parish in Dunmore. For many years, he operated Martarano Trucking Co. with his late brother, Sam. He was the owner of M&S Enterprises, a pipeline contracting company, doing business throughout the United States. He also had been the owner of numerous surface mining coal preparation businesses.
He was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather. He greatly enjoyed helping his daughter, a florist, by delivering her flowers, and visiting with the many people that were made happy by them. He was an avid carpenter and woodworker, and his creations are cherished in the homes of his family.
His family would like to thank the staff of the Scranton Healthcare Center, as well as his numerous personal aides, for all of the loving care shown during his times of need.
Surviving are sons, Louis A. Martarano of New York City and Joseph A. Martarano and wife, Shereé, of Bloomsburg; daughter, Jo Ann Martarano-Rabel and husband, Tom, of Throop; and grandchildren, Angelo and wife, Nicole; Bernadette, Roseanna and husband, John; and Lucia and husband, Joshua; great-grandchildren, Maria, Angela, Samantha, Callie, Nicholas, Conrad and Evelyn; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by sisters, Mary Rabel and Domenica (Mamie) Fanucci; and brothers, Michael, Bartlo, James and Salvatore Martarano.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday at 9:30 a.m. in Blessed Sacrament Church, 215 Rebecca St., Throop. Interment to follow in St. John's Cemetery in Jessup.
Calling hours will be held at Blessed Sacrament Church in Throop on Friday from 5 to 7 p.m.
All floral offerings may be sent directly to the church at 215 Rebecca St., Throop, Friday after noon.
