U.S. Marine Staff Sgt. Patrick R. Dolphin, 29, Holly Ridge, NC and formerly of Elmhurst and Dunmore, died Sunday July 31st in Western Afghanistan while defending our freedom. He and his wife the former, Lindsey N. Granza were married on December 12, 2008.
Born in Richmond, VA, he was the son of Tom G. Dolphin of Elmhurst and Jean Golden Uffalussy, Naples, FL. Patrick was a North Pocono High School graduate Class of 2000 and was a member of St. Eulalia’s Church in Elmhurst. Upon graduation from high school Patrick enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corp completing Boot Camp and several schools some of which included, Civil Air Patrol, Marine Boot Camp, Infantry School, Basic Reconnaissance School, Ranger Jump School, Sniper School, Scuba School, Deep Sea Dive School Survival School, Crane Armament Course, in addition to many other in house specialty schools.
He greatly enjoyed flying, having earned his Private Pilot License which he attained as a civilian. But above all, his greatest enjoyment came as being a U.S. Marine.
Also surviving are a brother, Thomas B. Dolphin, Scranton, maternal grandparents, Edward J. and Irene Golden, Dunmore, paternal grandmother, Mary R. Dolphin, Dunmore, step-mother, Sherri Dolphin, Elmhurst, step-father, Rick Uffalussy, Naples, FL, his mother and father in law, Michele and David Granza, Scranton, as well as numerous other family members of the Dolphin, Golden, and Granza families.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, William L. Dolphin and two uncles, James J. “Chopsey” Igoe, U.S. Navy and Patrick Igoe, U.S. Marine; both of who Patrick was close with and will be interned near them in the Cathedral Cemetery.
The funeral will be Wednesday from the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home, Inc. 318 East Drinker Street in Dunmore with mass at 9:30am in St. Ann’s Basilica, St. Ann Street in Scranton. Interment will follow in the Cathedral Cemetery in Scranton. Those attending the funeral mass are asked to go directly to the church on Wednesday.
Public visitation will be on Tuesday in the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home, Inc. 318 East Drinker Street in Dunmore, from the hours of 2-7pm.
