Doris E. Mandel, Monroe Township, NJ and formerly of Scranton, PA died Sunday in the University Medical Center of Princeton at Plainsboro. Her husband is Jacob Mandel.
Born in Scranton, daughter of the late Samuel and Ethel Grass Suravitz, she was a graduate of Scranton Central High School and went on to attend Syracuse University. She was a founding member of the East Brunswick Jewish Center and was an active resident at Concordia. An expert bridge player, she also taught the card game to many individuals. She was a devoted and loving wife and was part owner of Olden Paint Company in Highland Park with her husband.
Surviving are daughters Sandra Mandel and husband Jeffrey Brown, Philadelphia; and Beth Evkhanian and husband Michael, Sonoma, CA; a son Alan Mandel and wife Francine Portenoy Mandel, S. Brunswick, NJ; grandchildren Scott Horowitz, Jessica Mandel, Marlee Mandel, Max Mandel, Gabriel Evkhanian and Elise Evkhanian. She was preceded in death by a granddaughter Leah Horowitz and a brother Nathaniel Suravitz (Robert Survis).
The funeral will be today at 1 p.m. in the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home, Inc., 318 E. Drinker St., Dunmore, with services by Rabbi Joseph Mendelsohn. Interment in the Dalton Jewish Cemetery. Shiva will be observed at the home of her son Alan, 13 Norton Dr., Monmouth Junction, NJ this evening through Friday morning. A memorial service will be held at a later date at Monroe Village.
