Mary Rabel, 89, of Dunmore, died Sunday in Hospice Community Care, Dunmore. She was the widow of Edward William Rabel Sr., who died Aug. 3, 2008.

Born in Dunmore, she was the daughter of the late Luigi and Benedetta Pizzimenti Martarano. She was educated in Dunmore public schools, was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish, Dunmore, and had been a member of the former St. Casimir's Church, Dunmore, where she was a member of its Altar and Rosary Society, was active for many years with the church picnics and was a member of its quilting club. She was instrumental in the continued operation and success of the family business, Rabel Funiture, in Dickson City for many years.

She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and aunt who will be dearly missed.

Her family would like to thank her caregivers, Amy, LeAnn, Tina, Karen, Savannah, Karli and Gayle, as well as the staffs of both AseraCare and Hospice Community Care for all the wonderful and dedicated care given to Mary.

Surviving are a daughter, Marilyn and husband, Thomas Costanzo Sr., Olyphant; a son, Edward William Rabel Jr. and wife, Nancy, Peckville; five grandchildren, Regina and husband, Steve Krieger, Peckville; Thomas Costanzo Jr., Hoboken, N.J.; Edward William Rabel III and wife, Rebecca, Pittston Twp.; Dale Rabel and wife, Jessica, Throop; and James Rabel and wife, Katie, Olyphant; three great-grandchildren, Sarah , Evan and Jake Rabel; a brother, Angelo Martarano and wife, Catherine, Dunmore; a sister, Mamie Fanucci, Jessup; a sister-in-law, Dora Martarano, Maryland; several nieces and nephews. She will also be missed by a family pet, Dutch.

She was also preceded in death by four brothers, Michael, Bart, James and Sam Martarano.

The funeral will be Tuesday from the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home Inc., 318 E. Drinker St., Dunmore, with Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in St. Mary of Mount Carmel Church, Chestnut Street, Dunmore. Interment in St. John's Cemetery, Jessup.

Family and friends may call today from 4 to 7 p.m.

I am very sorry to hear about your mother. I always enjoyed seeing her on her porch and my grandmother Stella was very fond of her too. My prayers and thoughts are with you as you grieve the loss of a lovely woman.
