Emma J. Lubas, 90, Dunmore, died Wednesday afternoon in the ICU at Moses Taylor Hospital surrounded by her family. She was the widow of Joseph J. Lubas who died May 6, 1980.

Born in Dunmore, she was the daughter of the late George and Anna Hafich Evanko. She graduated with honors from Dunmore High School Class of 1939. She was a former member of St. Mary’s Byzantine Catholic Church in Scranton and was a current member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish in Dunmore.

Emma worked as a secretary for the Navy Department during World War II.  After raising her family, she worked at Villa St. Joseph.  In her kindness, she made many altar linens for the priests who resided there.

She enjoyed baking and cooking for her family and friends.  Emma left lasting memories behind in the form of afghans, which she enjoyed crocheting for her family.  She was always supportive of her family’s activities and endeavors.

Surviving are a son, Joseph, Jr., Jessup, three daughters, Sr. Carol Lubas IHM, East Stroudsburg, Jeanne Marie Waznak, Scranton, Elizabeth Raniella and her husband Michael, Dunmore, two sisters, Margaret Konkol, Sturges, and Ann (Nancy) Putignano, Springfield, Va., five grandchildren, Rebecca Thomas and her husband, Joseph Jr., Dalton, Jeanne M. DeSantis, and her husband, Anthony, Scranton, Melissa, Michael Jr. and Brian Raniella, all of Dunmore, four great-grandchildren, Nico and Noah DeSantis,  both of Scranton, and Emma Thomas and Joseph Thomas III, both of Dalton and numerous nieces and nephews and great-nephews and great-nieces.

She was preceded in death by four sisters, Irene Evanko, Olga Badyrka, Mary Mathewson, and an infant sister, Anna Evanko, and six brothers, Joseph, John, Thomas, Aftenazy, and two infant brothers, John and George.

The funeral will be Saturday from the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home, Inc. 318 E. Drinker St., Dunmore, with Mass at 9:30 AM in St. Mary of Mount Carmel Church, Dunmore.  Interment in St. Catherine Cemetery, Moscow.

Friends may call Friday from 5:00 to 8:00 PM.

Memorial contributions may be made to the IHM Retirement Fund, 2300 Adams Ave., Scranton, 18509.

Jeanne and family, So sorry to hear about your mom\'s passing. Although I never met her, you blessed us with the gift of one of her homemade afgans for the birth of our daughter 13 years ago and it has been passed down to our son as well. It has gotten alot of use and im sure was made with alot of love and care!! Our payers and thoughts are with you in this sorrowful time. Love, Molly
