Selma Elissa Toledo Mitrani age 100 passed away on February 12. Mrs. Mitrani, who was born on April 1, 1911, led a full and vibrant life and will be missed by loving nieces and nephews spanning four generations. She was a member of the O’hev Shalom synagogue in Berwick, Beth Israel Congregation in Bloomsburg and Temple Israel in Wilkes Barre.
Mrs. Mitrani was an accomplished Bridge player, world traveler and successful businesswoman having owned and ran Columbia Packaging in Berwick until 1980. In 1973 the Business and Professional Women’s Club awarded to her “Woman of the Year”. Mrs. Mitrani was an active member of the Berwick community, serving on the board of the Child Welfare Services of Columbia County, The Berwick Hospital Auxiliary and the Columbia County Medical Society Auxiliary. Mrs. Mitrani served on the board of directors of Franklin First Federal Savings and Loan.
In later life Mrs. Mitrani helped to establish a macular degeneration research lab at Technion Israel Institute of Technology and created a chair at Yeshiva University for students who needed help in paying their tuition.
Predeceasing Mrs. Mitrani was her husband Dr. Jacques Mitrani, her sister Ida Camhi, and brothers Ralph, Max, Sam, and Simon Toledo.
Family and close friends are invited to attend a graveside service today, Monday Feb. 13th, at 1:30P.M. in Ohev Sholom Cemetery, Berwick, by Rabbi Larry Kaplan.
