Margaret “Peggy” McNamara died Wednesday evening after a brief illness at the Holy Family Residence where she had resided for the past year. Her husband, Robert, preceded her in death on July 15, 1990. The couple had been married for forty years.
Born in Scranton on June 4, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Margaret McDonnell Durkin. A graduate of Technical High School, Class of 1940, she was a former member of the Christ the King Church, Dunmore. For many years, Peggy was a volunteer reader at the Pennsylvania Association for the Blind.
Peggy was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother. Her family was very important to her. Peggy enjoyed interacting with her many friends at Holy Family. The family would like to thank Mother Maureen, all of the Little Sisters of the Poor, and the entire staff at the Holy Family Residence for the wonderful care and love they extended to Peggy.
Survivors include two daughters, Kathy Hughes and husband Bill, Dunmore; and Anne Kachuk and husband Fred, Newtown; one son, Robert McNamara and wife Debbie, Camp Hill; one sister, Theresa Lynch and husband Jerry, Bristol; six grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by three sisters, Helen Durkin, Mary Howe, and Nan Gard; and four brothers, Joseph, Frank, James and John Durkin.
The funeral will be Monday with mass at 10:30 a.m. at the Holy Family Residence, 2500 Adams Ave., Scranton. Interment in Cathedral Cemetery. Friends may call Sunday afternoon from 1-4 p.m. at Holy Family Residence.
