Elaine Nussbaum, a resident of the Jewish Home of Eastern Pennsylvania, died Thursday, June 9th, at the facility. Her husband was Sidney Nussbaum, who died March 6, 1983.

Born in Scranton, Elaine was the daughter of the late Nat and Lillian Levy Strauss. She graduated from Scranton Central High School and was a member of the reunion planning committee for the class of 1940. She attended Lackawanna Business College and did secretarial work for many years, retiring as office manager of the American Heart Association, Keystone Chapter. She was a member of Temple Israel and its Sisterhood, the Jewish Community Center’s Senior Adult Club, and the Jewish Home Auxiliary.

Surviving are a son, Mark Nussbaum and wife, Judy, Huntington Beach, CA; a daughter, Marcia Oppenheim and husband, Jay, of Huntington Beach, CA; four grandchildren, Robin Manzer and husband Ian; David Nussbaum; Noah Oppenheim and wife, Allison; and Abby Oppenheim; and a great-grandson, Ascher Oppenheim. Elaine was the very best mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and she will be greatly missed by all of her children.

Graveside services will be Sunday at 11:00 a.m. at Dalton Jewish Cemetery, officiated by Cantor Vladimir Aronzon. There will be no local Shiva.

Memorial contributions in Elaine’s memory may be made to the Jewish Home of Eastern Pennsylvania, 1101 Vine St., Scranton, PA 18510.

I'm sorry for the loss of your Mother. Your parents were some of the kindest & nicest people I've met. You probably don't remember me but I was your Saturday night "babysitter" during the 50's. Love, Carol

I was sorry to hear about your mother's passing. Our family and yours have been friends for many years. My brother Bob in Connecticut sends his condolences also.
